2nd Gustav Klimt Symposium - Review

This year's symposium focused on the disciplines of architectural history, art history, restoration, photography, salon and social culture. The opening lecture was held by garden historian Professor Anette Freytag from Rutgers University, USA. Following this were chief curator Elisabeth Dutz from the Albertina, chief conservator Stefanie Jahn and curator Franz Smola from the Belvedere, photo historian Uwe Schögl from the Austrian National Library as well as author Paul Simpson, table culture expert Annette Ahrens and art historian Christina Wimmer. In addition, the Klimt Foundation visualized the latest features of the Gustav Klimt database, with a focus on the English language version of the database. The Klimt Foundation's commitment to research in the digital field has been further expanded by the first catalog raisonné of Klimt's favorite photographer Moriz Nähr, who also counted the Vienna Secession, the House of Habsburg and the Wittgenstein family among his clients. Based on the structure of the research catalogs in the Klimt database, around 1,300 photographs will be available in the digital catalogue raisonné on Nähr; initial insights were presented at the Klimt Symposium. The official launch is planned for June 2024.
